Boston WILPF initiated the Congo Action Now project (CAN), which brings together women from varied communities and organizations to address the horrors of war and sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Congo Action Now collaborates with Congolese women in the U.S. and in the DRC. In October 2009, Boston supported Breaking the Silence/Congo Week with a number of activities - sponsoring a resolution that was passed by the Cambridge City Council, holding a vigil in Harvard Square, initiating a series of informational house parties, and presenting a petition to Sen. Kerry urging him to co-sponsor the Congo Conflict Minerals Act. For more on Boston's DRC activities, see the Congo Action Now website.
